JANUARY - FEBRUARY, 2007: ANDREW TONN

Andrew Tonn is a documentary photojournalist who grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and now resides in Wooster, Ohio. At age 11 he took his first photographs of people with his Nikon FM on Kodak Tri-X. Since then he has had many "decisive moments" in which he has captured the interaction of light, time and circumstance. In particular he continues to be captivated by the diverse images of the human experience.

Andrew first went to Central America with CAMO (Central American Medical Outreach) in 2000 while working as a staff writer for the Daily Record newspaper in Wooster.

In 2001-2002, he spent eight months in Central America as CAMO’s documentary director, working on a series of web articles and photographs for the medial relief organization. Since then he has returned three times to Central America and Mexico to work on photo-documentary projects. On his most recent trip he once again worked with CAMO in Honduras, but also joined a delegation of SARA (Sharing America’s Resources Abroad) in El Salvador to learn about and document SARA’s work.

The Clam digging children (Currileros) of El Espino, El Salvador particularly caught his attention. Andrew is currently working on a documentary video of the Currileros and hopes to return to El Salvador in the near future.

NOVEMBER - DECEMBER, 2006: ANASTASIA HOROWITZ

Anastasia's art training began when she was very young with the support and encouragement of her parents. Saturday bicycle jaunts to the Zanesville Art Institute provided the opportunity to view art exhibits before and after pastel drawing lessons in the attic of the Institute.

Later, she studied commercial arts with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and received her BFA at the Ohio State University. Anastasia developed versatile approaches in her oil painting, silver point, and graphite work. Her travels through North America, Europe, and South America have added to her life reference, and her varieties of styles include still life, light filled landscapes, and colorful figures.

She has been awarded multiple Best of Show, First Place, and Juror's Choice Awards in her many juried exhibits.

AUGUST - SEPTEMBER, 2006: SALLY HARRIS

Sally is vision impaired and not only creates beautiful artwork, she is an avid volunteer for the visually impaired and blind as well as an advocate for other artists like herself.

“My paintings are created in acrylic and water based media in bold contrasting colors and also in black in white. The subjects of my paintings are the outdoors, where my true heart lies – landscapes, flowers, oceans, sunsets…Since my brain only receives limited information, it processes what I see more as an impression than a clear image. This is reflected in my paintings as they are more Impressionistic than Realistic.

“In a world so full of turbulence and turmoil, I hope those who view my artwork will come away feeling a sense of the peace, hope and belonging (for that is what my painting has given to me). The icing on the cake would be if viewers would even stretch their imaginations and dare to believe that there really can be peace and joy in the beautiful world surrounding us.”

MAY - JULY, 2006: NANCY MULICK

Nancy Mulick is chair of the art department at the Wellington School in Upper Arlington . She received her MFA from the University of Massachusetts and a Master's of Education from The University of Vermont. She has taught papermaking at Rhode Island School of Design.

Originally from New Jersey, Nancy paints the Southern Jersey landscape of meadows, marshlands, and riverviews along the Maurice River. "The flat landscape and sweeping fields of Ohio and southern New Jersey are very similar and on drives out into the countryside I sometimes wonder which state I am in," she writes.  Because of the flatness and low horizon line it is possible to capture the feeling of the "big sky" during the many dramatic sunsets of Ohio and New Jersey.

Her works in this exhibit combine different media such as gouache, pastel and handmade paper or oil and handmade paper on canvas. Her works are in private collections in the US, Japan, Austria, and France, as well as in the White House Collection, The Dard Hunter Paper Museum. and The Ossabaw Island Collection in Savannah, Georgia.
