Under the direction of May Schwarz, the Chancel Choir sings a wide variety of choral repertoire. The choir sings most Sundays at the 10:30 a.m. service (mid-September through May) and rehearses Thursdays from 7:15– 8:30 p.m. They also sing at the once monthly (October through June) Evening Prayer services (music in the style of Taize), and at other special services. Chancel Choir is open to teen-agers and adults wishing to take a leadership role in worship through music, and share their gift of music. Learn new music, new skills, and be fed spiritually.

Messiah Choir (October-December)
St. John's Music Ministry has a tradition of singing the Christmas portion (Part I) of Handel's Messiah as part of a 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning service during Advent. The 45-voice choir, soloists and chamber orchestra, including trumpets from the balconies, seek “to prepare our hearts for the coming of the Christ Child.” Singers, as well as the many visitors attending this service, are spiritually enriched and renewed. The Chancel Choir serves as the core group for this expanded choir. Thursday Messiah rehearsals extend mid-October through November.

Guests are welcome in the choir! Please contact May Schwarz via e-mail for more information.

St. John's children's choirs provide excellent vehicles for children to develop self-expression, leadership qualities, and musical and social skills—as well as enjoy the positive atmosphere of love and joy through Christian music as their faith is formed.
