At St. John’s, we believe we are all teachers and learners. While learning takes place in nearly every facet of our ministry, there are specific educational offerings for every age group. During the school year, Sunday School classes for every age group meet from 9:00 to 9:50 a.m.

CHILDREN
Children in pre-K through 5th grade learn about St. John’s core values.

After the children’s time in the worship service, all children are invited to go to the Celebration Station, where they learn together through Bible stories, movement activities, dynamic discussions, and hands-on projects.

YOUTH
A post-confirmation class for middle- and high-school students covers a wide variety of topics including discerning spiritual gifts and making vocational choices, understanding world religions, and responding to social pressures. This class meets on Sunday mornings during the school year at 9 a.m. in the youth room above the sanctuary.

This past year, the middle- and high-school classes explored the foundations and impacts of several resolutions passed by the UCC General Synod in July.  Topics included environmental and international justice, fair trade practices, fast food, church and government relations, and assistance to the disadvantaged. The students started a church-wide recycling program, held a fair-trade gift sale, and began the planning for a community garden.

ADULTS
On Sunday mornings from September through May there are two adult-education offerings. One is a Bible study; the other deals with a variety of topics including book studies, current religious and political issues, spiritual gift development, theological topics, world religions, spiritual formation, and more.

The Bible study meets in the Leadership Staff office, and the other programs generally meet in Fellowship Hall.

A Bible study that concentrates on one of the lectionary readings for the following Sunday, using an approach to Scripture reading known as "lectio divina" which then takes our intersection with Scripture into the business of our lives, also meets on Fridays from 11 a.m.-12 noon in Fellowship Hall.

The Adult Education program also offers in-depth follow-up discussion sessions from the "Currents" presentation series. See the "Currents" page for full details.

Children learn the love of God through hands-on experience.
